Here’s what I dislike about this: it’s a really easy way of showing support for the community without DOING anything about it. When asked about same-sex marriage, he replied, “My thoughts are still evolving” which isn’t good enough. I’m sorry-it’s not.
So yes, this is great. Any person who is Commander in Chief should always support our men and women in the military and if they are not capable of doing so, they have no business being in charge of the military (which is a critical role of the president). Obama calling them out is awesome. But I’m not going to pretend that this is any indication that he is going to go out of his way to make a difference, especially before an election. This was a political move in the same way as not actually saying he advocates for marriage equality.
